I realize I went into quite a bit of detail, and while you don't have to read all of it, do understand the key points.
One of the most important details I must stress is that this is a community driven effort. I require as much feedback as possible to make this board function well. If you see any bugs, please message me imediatly! If you want something to be added to the forum, post it your headcanon or idea to the tumblr tag, I check it often, it may be added. If you have any critiques on this board, don't hesitate to message me, I don't bite!
I. How to roleplay:
I assume everyone who has interest in roleplaying in this board has some form of prior experience in roleplaying. If you don't, it's fine, but there is a few things you need to know. I prefer to keep this as professional as possible, and while there's no real rules to roleplaying, there is some boundaries that need to be respected, and some vague general unofficial rules.
The most efficient way to roleplay is in "paragraph format". This is the format that you see in books. It's very simple, and you shouldn't be worried if you're not an amazing writer. It is a skill to develop and we all start somewhere. Here's an example on how to roleplay:
Myn's body quaked in fear as she entered The Pantheon, having never left her secluded factory for the longest time, it was a stark and unusual change of venue for her. The expression across her face clearly expressed fear and anxiety that made her reconsider her actions of coming here. "H-h-hello?" she stuttered out, her eyes so focused so intently it could probably burn a hole in the golden wall she was eyeing. The room echoed with her words, and while she expected little or no response, the wafting smell of confectioneries caught her attention, as if to extend a warm greeting to her. Is someone there? She thought to herself, building up enough courage to find out. Slowly, Myn began to step further into the titanic building, her boots clicking on the perfectly cleaned floor as she followed the scent. Peaking past a large, Corinthian column, Myn looked around to find the source of the mystery scent. "Is it dinner time?" She chuckled to herself before noticing the large banquet hall she had wandered into. Her stomach growled in response, suddenly her body filled with a voracious appetite that only a god's banquet could satisfy. Whoever made all of this wouldn't be too upset if she took just one bite, right?
I would consider this an acceptable post. Not all posts have to be this length, but putting some form of effort into your writing is required for us to have a quality forum. You have to consider to yourself before posting: Is this interesting to read? If its a starting post, does it leave an opening for another god to enter and react to it? If there's only one sentence, it doesn't give others much to respond to. While it is possible to have one-sentence roleplays, it destroys a lot of possibility to describe key topics like body language, characters emotion, setting and detailed descriptions. Its never good to go overboard with details, but painting a clear picture helps your partner visualize what you are trying to portrait to them. The spoken text is in " "'s, and the thoughts are in italics.
Here is a few examples of unacceptable roleplay posts:
1. Myn walked into The Pantheon and stood in a corner, hoping she wouldn't be noticed.
If you don't give the reader something to react to (a plot) then the roleplay gets boring and stale. While you could probably find something about this post to respond to, if you dont give an action, you will not get a reaction.
2. "Alright. Lets do that!" Myn responded cheerfully. She smiled.
This doesn't really help move the plot forward in any way and leaves much to be desired. It's short and boring and dosnt give any insight into character or setting. It's boring.
3. Myn's face contorted in anger ((Also btw did you see that new movie with Nick Cage in it OMG!!!)) "Stahp D:<!!!" she yelled.
This is not a chatroom, do not use smiles in your posts please for the love of roleplaying. Also, if you are going to make OOC remarks, please put them at the bottom of the post, after all of your story text, or else it just gets confusing. You can wait a moment to finish your reply and put
II. Spelling and Grammar:
While no one should flip out for their partner accidentally forgetting a comma or misspelling words, do realize spellcheck is a wonderful thing that should be utilized to its full potential. People make mistakes, that's fine, but keep in mind that typing in leet speak or not even attempting to spell correctly is frowned upon. I recommend taking a moment to check over your post before you submit to make sure it's as clear to understand as possible.
III. Mary Sues:
This is going to be a bit of a broad topic that will not be touched upon for long. While generally, I would be heavily against creating self-insertion and Mary Sue characters, Godmode AU is a bit of a grey area. Godmode is based heavily off you and is overpowered in general, but as a character, they should have some form of flaws. No one is perfect, not even the gods, we all make mistakes. Flaws are what drive plot and unless your character is the God/ess of Perfection I dont see a reason why they can't have flaws. They make characters so much more interesting on top of it.
IV. God-modding:
Not to be confused with 'Godmode'. God-modding is the term used and described by Urban Dictionary as:
-It can be killing or injuring a character without the player's express permission.
-It can be when they simply can’t be hit and dodge all attacks or anything for this matter aimed at them.
-It can also be using other characters that other people RP with. In other words, if you do not RP as Legolas, then you cannot have Legolas say anything, or do anything, without the player's express permission.
No one is allowed to control your character or what they do. Only you control your character and the outcome of attacks aimed at them. Here is an example:
Recoiling, Myn shifted the weight on her feet to throw a punch landing directly at your characters face, enjoying the satisfying sound of their nose breaking under her fist.
Instead of that, try:
Recoiling, Myn shifted the weight on her feet to throw a punch at your characters face.
Weather your character dodged it completely up to you. Try to give the attacker a good chance to hit though, sometimes its more fun to let the hit land! God-modding shows up in other areas unintentionally also. Just point it out if you see it happening, okay? Try to be civil.
Also, please try to keep your characters powers consistent. No out-of-thin-air powers.
V. NSFW content:
ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO TALK TO YOUR PARTNER BEFORE ENGAGING IN ANY FORM OF NSFW CONTENT, WEATHER IT BE BY SKYPE, OOC BRACKETS OR THE BOARDS MESSAGING SYSTEM. NOT EVERYONE IS OKAY WITH IT.
I cannot stress this fact enough. No board I know allows graphic sex scenes, and if you REALLY feel the need to do that, please do it privately over skype or some other method. I do not want this board to be involved with any writing of that nature. I will chop you up into little pieces. Verbally. Excessive violence should also be talked about with your partner before you decide to go around stabbing people. It's just a courtesy.
Questions? Concerns? Confused? Always feel free to message me (Myn) for any questions or concerns regarding this board. I might get some help from others to help administrate the board, but for now, I am the only one running this place and keeping it as clean as possible for you all.
